"We participated in the meeting called at the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy on the Glencore dispute. The company communicated that their new plan includes the downsizing of the industrial hub with the consequent dismissal of hundreds of people. We cannot accept this in any way."
This is what we read in a press release issued by the Region, signed by the governor Alessandra Todde and the councilors for Industry and Labor, Emanuele Cani and Desirè Manca.
The Villa Devoto note continues: "We have therefore asked Glencore to take into consideration all appropriate initiatives to ensure that the commitments made to the social partners are honoured. We have also asked to review the company's decision to interrupt the zinc line and to guarantee the maintenance of the current employment levels at Portovesme. For us, it is necessary to build every possible solution for the maintenance or possible relocation of the workers of the contracting companies of San Gavino and Portovesme".
According to the Todde council, "social responsibility is necessary and indispensable and in the various declarations made by the company no industrial perspective is perceived. We will not allow Sardinia to be trampled on and we will not abandon families and our productive future . We await the Government, as announced, to reconvene the parties in a short time", concludes the note from the Region.
