Gastón Pereiro will play again in Serie A and with a red and blue shirt, not that of Cagliari but that of Genoa. The Uruguayan playmaker, coming off four and a half years that were certainly not fortunate in Sardinia and with some loans in between, had been a free agent since last August 29th when he terminated his contract with the club of president Tommaso Giulini .
Genoa, in this first part of the season, has had several injuries, some serious (above all Ruslan Malinovskyi, but also Junior Messias and most recently Fabio Miretti) and has deemed it necessary to further strengthen the squad available to Alberto Gilardino. Contacts with Pereiro have intensified in recent days and now the Ligurian club has decided to sign him: he still has to undergo medical tests , before signing the contract that will arrive shortly. His debut will be possible after the break for the national teams, next Saturday at 3 pm at home to Bologna.
Having arrived at Cagliari in January 2020 from PSV Eindhoven, Pereiro has made 71 appearances in total for the Rossoblu, scoring 9 goals, but has never managed to establish himself , playing with a modicum of continuity only in the 2021-2022 season. From January to June of last year, he returned to his homeland to Nacional, the Montevideo club where he began his career, again without making an impact.
His last experience, in the second part of last season, was in Serie B with Ternana: 6 goals in 20 appearances but without managing to avoid relegation in the play-offs against Bari. Then the return to Cagliari, a summer on the margins and the decision to terminate the contract just before the closing of the market .
