She doesn't like to win easy. His story tells it and his ideas tell it. Maria Del Zompo has a slew of "already" in her curriculum that now she would like to embellish by entering the Senate.

In a world, it is useless to deny it, for men she is already a university teacher (pharmacology), former rector of the University of Cagliari (the first in history), former director of specialization schools, formerly "Woman of the year" and with in her pocket other various awards, already a member of a dozen research projects, former organizer of world-class conferences, former writer for numerous scientific journals, former member of scientific societies and former member of the Superior Health Council. For days she has been touring the length and breadth of the island as a candidate for the Senate for the Democratic Party in the single college and for the center-left in the uninominal one.

But sorry, who makes him do it?

“The spirit of service. I believe, at this moment, a duty to work in Parliament and to safeguard the rights of all, and therefore of the country ».

Do you therefore believe that in the event of a victory by the center-right these rights will be canceled?

«I don't like controversies, imagine if I turn them on. But the risk is very high ».

Is one of these rights to health? By the way, how is health care?

«A right enshrined in the Constitution, therefore the right of a Sardinian is the same as that of someone who lives in any other region. Let's say that there are essential levels that must be ensured for everyone, without distinction, and this is not happening in Sardinia. The problem lies in the organization which is based on political choices. In general, we must stop thinking of funds as variables of expenditure, which can be changed. My proposal, and of the Democratic Party, is first of all to fix a percentage of GDP directed to health care: today it is 6.4%, we want to bring it to 7. Fixed percentage that can only grow. Again, review the decisions taken by the center-right that led to the blocking of turnover and which in fact decreased the performance of the public in favor of the private sector. I have nothing against the private sector, of course, but services and structures, not only in the world of health, must remain public ».

However, there is also a personnel problem.

«Of course, we need to increase recruitment aimed at professionals and young people. But don't make the discourse of a limited number of universities to be reviewed because a trivial solution is given to a complex problem ».

However, it seems that it is an evil of Sardinian health.

«The problem in Sardinia is linked to the difficulty of organizing services in our territory, which is vast, and which in itself has other problems such as internal transport. It is therefore essential to formulate a specific health plan which, I insist, guarantees the essential levels of assistance and at the same time safeguards the excellence that exists. In short, we study the opportunities and criticalities of the territories and identify the priorities for each. To do this it is essential to interact with the healthcare world, trade unions, local administrators, associations ».

Not a simple work.

«Well, in the meantime, you never waste time when you listen. And then the projects can be made “modular” and carried out when the funds are there. Finally we have the great opportunity of insularity which can help us ».

Right to education.

“Together with health it is the real priority. In our program, free from kindergarten and up to 18 years and over. We know how fundamental learning is in young children, except that according to OECD data, while in other countries it starts 2/3 years with us, it starts a year later. And that lost year we do not recover anymore. Therefore, a new method but also salaries equated to European levels, of teachers and all school staff. “Beautiful” buildings with an eye to sport. And let it be clear: these are not "simple" expenses but investments in our children, many of whom are struggling today because they do not understand written Italian. Just as it is essential to get a degree and a research doctorate: according to the latest OECD data, Italy is the only country with 100% female employment for those who acquire a research doctorate. Let me say that unfortunately the island lacks the "new professions" that can only be had with adequate studies. The Sardinian university supports innovation but I ask you: have you ever seen an agricultural or fishing company that uses artificial intelligence? There are European funds for training for new technologies, let's exploit them ».

However, young people flee from the island, and depopulation is an emergency.

«You need to have a project that looks at the problem as a whole. There is a lack of infrastructures, services but also new jobs. Here too, listening is fundamental: we must speak with the mayors to build projects that guarantee services for more communities, obviously guaranteeing public transport between centers. Networking is essential. Then kindergartens, spaces for the elderly, play areas, optical fiber. In short, we need studies that look at opportunities and criticalities and that give adequate solutions also for businesses ».

Insularity.

«It goes without saying that it must be filled. How? With the laws that are being implemented, whatever they are. Sardinian parliamentarians will have to be careful sentinels in analyzing all the measures they are taking. Or, better, all the criteria by which the laws are applied. But I'm sure this will be a task that all the elect will do. For me, health and education are the first to be brought into play on the insular side. But also depopulation and territorial continuity ».
