The earthquake in the 5 Star Movement , which culminated with the farewell of Luigi Di Maio and his loyalists in controversy with the leadership of Giuseppe Conte , and the latter's continuous arrows to Mario Draghi and the government line , on Ukraine but not alone, they are creating quite a few thoughts for the Democratic Party as well .

The Democratic Party, as is well known, has worked in recent months to build a legislative alliance with the former enemy M5S, which was also a test bed for an electoral alliance for upcoming policies.

Now, however, what is happening in the pentastellati could cause second thoughts, especially if Conte follows the breaking line with Draghi and with the executive.

Secretary Enrico Letta said this and Dario Franceschini reiterated it, closing the national meeting of AreaDem, in Cortona (Arezzo): "From now to the elections, to go together with the M5S we must be on the same side. If there will be a rupture or a distinction, because external support is a break , for us it will lead to the end of the government and the impossibility of going to elections together ”.

"We have to work - added Franceschini - starting from a nucleus, 5 Stars, Leu and Pd, which tries to expand to those who can share a program and accept the rules of coexistence of a coalition. The alliance is consolidated or dismantled in these. months, not twenty days before by choosing colleagues ".

From an electoral point of view, the Democratic Party, therefore, at the moment continues to look first and foremost to the M5S, as well as to Leu. But there are other forces that, instead, propose an alternative . And they do it with determination and in a tranchant way, inviting the dem to "give up" the Five stars and instead focus on another project, which embraces, in place of Leu and pentastellati, Action, Più Europa and Italia Viva . And even - with a view to a Grand Coalition - even Forza Italia , especially if the conditions are really created for the early end of Draghi I.

"Enrico Letta repeats that if the M5S leaves the government the legislature will end. What he fails to say is whether even in that case the Democratic Party will follow the path of an alliance with the 5S. And it is not a trivial detail", Carlo Calenda, leader of Action, wrote on Facebook .

"Because in that case - adds Calenda - it will be evident that the only way to save this country is to run for elections with a Republican Front that includes all the parties that govern together in Europe , thus closing the season of bipopulism and marginalizing Sovereignists and Populists. ".

Then the suggestion to the dem, not the first, on the way to go: “ Democratic Party, Action / Più Europa, ItaliaViva, Forza Italia , represent the great EU political families: popular, social democrats, liberals. There are many more things in common between us than with Meloni, Salvini and Conte. Starting from the government culture which is essential to face tough times ”, concludes Calenda.
