There is also a Sassari, the musician Paolo Angeli, in the running for the Grammy Awards, the most prestigious award assigned for the results achieved in the musical field.
His album "Jar'a" is on the ballot in the section for best instrumental album. In addition, with the singles Jar'a and Sùlu, the possibility of nominations extends to three other categories: best instrumental composition, best global music performance, best arrangement.
In the concept-album - structured in six movements - Paolo Angeli expresses an innovative contemporary language.
The protagonist is once again the guitar-orchestra conceived by the musician: the bow dialogues with the guitar counterpoints, the bass line (played with the aid of hammers) supports the architrave of the musical structure, drones and polyrhythms overlap and everything, played live, is compacted in a liquid magma made with analog delays. The climax of the Jar'a suite is reached in the song "Sùlu", with the participation of Omar Bandinu (Tenores by Bitti Mialinu Pira) who, with a brilliant interpretation of the 'a tenor' guttural bass technique, transports the album to the heart of the Mediterranean and in the territories of the most ancestral Sardinia.
The news was received with great satisfaction by the guitarist. "It is the result of twenty-five years of concerts all over the world with my Sardinian guitar prepared for 18 strings, unique in the world - comments Angeli - The fact that Jar'a is in the ballot as best instrumental album represents an added value. The album was recorded in self-production, an element that allowed total autonomy in artistic choices and, regardless of the final result and any nominations, the Mediterranean avant-garde arrives overseas and consolidates its presence in the music oscars ".
