Disappointment for the three Italians nominated for the Oscars. Paolo Sorrentino ("It was the hand of God"), Massimo Cantini Parrini (the costumes of "Cyrano") and Enrico Casarosa (candidate for the best animated film with "Luca") did not bring home any statuettes at the ceremony of Los Angeles assignment. Ryusuke Hamaguchi's “Drive my car” was awarded as best foreign film.

At the evening that took place in the Italian night at the Dolby Theater the dominant colors were yellow and blue, a tribute to Ukraine to which a moment of silence and concentration was paid. President Volodymyr Zelensky did not intervene, as Sean Penn expected . On stage, however, Francis Ford Coppola received applause with his "long live Ukraine".

Moments of tension were instead recorded when Chris Rock, chosen to award the award as best documentary, expressed a few words about the public: he wanted to be nice, brilliant. But when, in reference to the couple formed by Will Smith and his wife Jade Pinkett, he said that the actress looked like "GI Jane", the protagonist of the film "Saving Private Jane", referring to her shaved head, the husband he got up, reached Rock and punched him. If someone talked about an organized gag, it seems instead that it was a spontaneous gesture and the audience remained speechless.

Never had such a scene been seen at an Oscar night.
