When he grows up he wants to be a doctor, in the meantime he studies and achieves excellent results. Carlo Zoccheddu of the 5b of the Mariano IV scientific high school in Oristano, biomedical doctor, won the 2024 Sardinian natural sciences championships in the Three-year Biology category.

In Cagliari, in the main hall of the Euclide High School, he managed to defeat 69 other competitors who had come from all over the island to compete for the prestigious title. Carlo Zoccheddu, resident in Ula Tirso, 18 years old, student of professor Rosangela Melis, was prepared by high school teacher Stefano Pusceddu to support the championships. «For us it was an important result - observes the teacher - he is a well-prepared and diligent boy who has always had top marks in Natural Sciences, a subject which has always fascinated him and in which he has always committed himself with great seriousness. We are very happy with the results achieved by our students – continues Pusceddu – opportunities like these are useful because they represent a different way of approaching and dealing with the subjects being studied, and give the opportunity to delve deeper into topics that are not always covered during the year school".

But it's not over. Now the young man has another important commitment, the National Final, in which he will compete with all the regional champions of Italy. The event will take place in Assisi on May 11th.

The Natural Sciences Championships organized every year by the Association of Natural Science Teachers, on behalf of the Ministry of Education, include an institute phase and a regional phase for the two-year, three-year Biology and three-year Earth Sciences categories. The winners of the regional finals participate in the National Final. The national champion and the best classified will be part of the team that will participate in the International Biology Olympics which will take place in Astana from 7 to 14 July 2024.
