Cagliari suffers, but in the end they return from Lecce with a 1-1 draw which interrupts the series of defeats away from the Domus.

Ranieri has his men counted and then room for the expected choices, with the rossoblù lining up with a 4-2-3-1, where Petagna is the offensive point of reference. Cagliari started well and, after 5', had their first real goal: Nandez's cross from the right, Dossena's head popped up, but the ball just barely touched the post to Falcone's right. Oudin took the post instead, in the 15th minute, with a left-footed shot from distance. Balanced race and disturbed by wind and rain. The balance was broken in the 31st minute, with Gendrey's header from a corner. Cagliari reacts with a high right-footed shot from Petagna, but Lecce comes close to doubling the lead with Krstovic, who fails to score (37') with the goal wide open.

The rossoblù take another risk with a cross in front of goal by Gallo, but the first half ends with the Apulians ahead 1-0.

Same twenty-two at the start of the second half, with Lecce pushing in search of the goal that can close the match. Cagliari holds on and then comes out, dragged by Oristanio. The former Inter player tries in the 20th minute, but the left-footed shot goes high. In the 23rd minute, however, the score was 1-1: Viola's free kick from the right, Oristanio appeared and his shot was saved by Falcone, but beyond the goal line. In the 26th minute Cagliari comes close to overtaking, with Prati's shot from the edge: this time Falcone flies and saves himself for a corner. Viola's serve from the flag sends the ball directly to the post. In the final flurry of substitutions, Ranieri also introduced Di Pardo and Deiola for the exhausted Oristanio and Makoumbou. It ends 1-1, a small score that allows them to close the first leg with 15 points.
