Respecting the spirit of an opera and its score is already meritorious. Even more so when you stage a famous and beloved opera like “La Bohème” by Giacomo Puccini, the title chosen to close the opera-symphonic season of the Marialisa de Carolis institution.
The staging proposed at the Teatro Comunale in Sassari has the merit of being orthodox and, moreover, it is a very Sassarese production: Alberto Gazale, who is also the artistic director of the institution, takes care of the direction, scenography and costumes; the conductor Leonardo Sini, who has an excellent feeling with the de Carolis orchestra; the tenor Matteo Desole who in tomorrow's performance will replace Valerio Borgioni in the role of Rodolfo.
And speaking of Borgioni, a really good performance that of the second evening, because apart from the confidence in the emission, he manages to give the right color to Rodolfo's yearnings for Mimì, well interpreted vocally by Marta Mari. And the couple received the most convinced applause, which almost reached the ovation.
Applause also for the rest of the cast: the other couple of lovers, Evgeniya Vukkert's Musetta and the Marcello of Christian Federici, and the other two young members of the bohemian quartet of artists, Tiziano Rosati (Colline) and Michael Zeni (Scaunard), well-balanced in voice and acting.
The scenography of the second act is very profound, where the action takes place in the Café Mumus, which really existed, thanks to the projection that gives the illusion of what is happening in the other streets of Paris.
