In Sardinia, less than one out of two Sardinians read at least one book in a year: 42.6%, to be precise. The Italian average is 40.8%. 40.2% of the island's residents read more than three and just 19.1% more than one a month.

The percentages are low. But the island is not among the worst regions of Italy. Indeed, it is placed in the middle of the ranking drawn up by Istat, which analyzed the book publishing market for 2021: Sardinians are among the best readers in the south of the country. Sicilians are the worst: just 27.4% have picked up at least one book in the course of 12 months.

On this side of the Tyrrhenian Sea we remain anchored to traditions. Among those who read, 66.7% prefer to leaf through the pages of paper texts, while 16.4 have been convinced by technology and the rationalization of spaces, dedicating themselves only to E-Books. Audiobooks in Sardinia do not break through, even if they have conquered 2.5% of the market.

In general, the number of readers throughout the country is stable, even if editorial production has started to grow again.

In 2021, both titles published (+11.1% on 2020) and circulation (+11.7%) increased. The average cover price remains substantially stable while one in three publishers declares an increase in turnover compared to the previous year, the one devastated by the closures of the Covid.
