In public administrations, young people are a rare commodity. In Sardinia , for example, in the main municipalities the average age of workers is increasingly higher : the age group between 50 and 59 represents the majority. And the incidence of under 35s almost always fails to exceed 2% of the total.

Sometimes it gets even worse: this is the case of Nuoro where according to the Openpolis study - based on Istat data - there are no girls or boys with permanent contracts . But even the other cities do not shine: in Cagliari and Oristano young people stop at 2%, in Olbia and Sassari at 1% .

And, again, in half of the over 8 thousand Italian municipalities there are no under 35s, if we broaden our gaze to all local authorities (Regions, Provinces, metropolitan cities) we reach 1%. Rates that often result in increased sickness rates among employees and other factors that lower productivity.

Why does all this happen? The hiring freeze and other elements that have contributed to raising the average age are to blame : "Those who can flee from the Municipalities, because the salaries are lower than those of the Region by around 5 thousand euros a year", says Fulvia Murru , regional secretary of the Uil public service. And obviously it is easier for the great escape to involve those who are younger and not those who are one step away from retirement. «We have an open dispute for the recognition of the same economic treatment, in order to avoid the mass movement of workers towards regional bodies. There must no longer be Serie B workers, with the same qualifications the same salary must be paid", adds Murru.
