Augusto Navone, mayoral candidate for the Grand Civic Coalition in the last elections, is out of the Olbia City Council, unless he decides within ten days to give up his job as director of the Tavolara Capo Coda Cavallo Marine Protected Area (which is headed by a management consortium that sees the Municipality of Olbia, together with those of Loiri Porto San Paolo and San Teodoro, among its members).

This was decided this morning by the civic assembly with only the votes of the majority (17) while the opposition councilors left the session in protest.

The case had been raised by two citizens, with reference to Article 63 of the Consolidated Law on Local Authorities, and set the Chamber on fire right from the inauguration session.

The two reports of the legal office of the municipality and the municipal secretary, with an analysis of the case, postponed the decision to the vote of the assembly. Augusto Navone presented his counter-arguments with an opinion of the lawyer Benedetto Ballero in support of the compatibility of the position of director with the professional position of director of the Amp. From a technical point of view, the marine protected area of Tavolara, based on this interpretation, would not be controlled by the Municipality of Olbia. But Navone, together with his coalition, founds his battle also from a political point of view, judging the ouster of the leader of the opposition "very serious".

The majority councilors who voted for the incompatibility, including the Prime Minister, the lawyer Marzio Altana, who expressed an explanation of vote, took the opposite opinion. The opposition left the room for the vote and then returned to continue the work.

Augusto Navone has ten days to remove the cause of incompatibility and if he wants to stay in the Chamber he must renounce the leadership of the Amp. However, the leader of the Grand Civic Coalition has announced that he will appeal to the TAR.
