A new weekly maritime connection dedicated to animal transport will begin on Sunday, June 28th, from the Cocciani industrial port in Olbia . The service will comply with health and hygiene and animal welfare requirements , ensuring adequate ventilation, suitable space, and travel management compatible with the needs of the animals being transported, as well as the availability of cabin accommodation for drivers. Furthermore, departure and arrival times will be compatible with market demands.

The introduction of this dedicated line from Olbia represents an immediate and effective solution, allowing Northern Sardinian haulers to have a loading point closer to their operating base for sending livestock to fattening centers in Northern Italy. This will optimize travel times , reduce costs, and improve the overall competitiveness of companies in the sector.

The service was launched by Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini , who has repeatedly proposed a concrete solution to address the difficulties reported by the Sardinian livestock sector, which, during the summer season, faces enormous difficulties in moving livestock on ro-pax ferries due to high temperatures. Salvini expressed satisfaction with the synergy established by the Sardinian Sea Port System Authority and the Region.
