“The great news we were waiting for has just arrived: the ancient Nuragic civilization , an extraordinary brand of Sardinian identity, has today been included in the Unesco tentative list. It is the first, extraordinary step for its right to become a World Heritage Site to be recognized ”.

This was announced by the president of the association "Sardinia towards Unesco", Pierpaolo Vargiu.

This is the first step to obtain the precious recognition by the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture: each nation draws up a list of the sites it wants to nominate and which is reviewed at least once every ten years. Subsequently, each State chooses which of these places to include in the nomination list, which is analyzed by the Paris Committee.

"In this moment of great satisfaction, the first thought of thanks goes to the work done by our Scientific Committee, coordinated by professors Ugas, Zucca and Depalmas and to the extraordinary and unified mobilization of the mayors, the councils of all the municipalities of Sardinia, the Council , of the Giunta and of the regional presidency, of Sardinian universities , of the world of education, of the economy and of associations that have supported with passion and enthusiasm a challenge that can really radically change the future of Sardinia ”, added Vargiu.

As the president explains, inclusion in the tentative list is only the first step of a very complex process: "There is full awareness that, to achieve our goal, we still have a long way to go and a lot of work awaits us, but today we can really rejoice. for a result that rewards the shared commitment that has united all Sardinians, from cities to small towns, from Sassari to Cagliari, finally all united in the name of a great common perspective ".

"The challenge - he concluded - is now to raise the bar even more: the Nuragic civilization must be recognized as a 'World Heritage Site' by Unesco, but above all it must become the driving force behind our brand identity. It isolates and must lead our great bet for a new sustainable development project, based on our roots and our peculiarities ".
