“Nuragic Civilization and Artificial Intelligence: from stones to neural networks” is the title of the international conference organized by the association “La Sardegna verso l'Unesco”, scheduled for November 29. The initiative will see the participation of experts from all over the world, present at “Sa Manifattura” in Cagliari for the event on the topic of AI. An event that aims, among other things, to offer new insights for analysis and perspectives that are also useful for defining a new model of sustainable development for Sardinia.
"The international conference represents one of the most important moments in the life of the association "La Sardegna verso l'Unesco"", explains the president Pierpaolo Vargiu, "In this edition, the second after last year, we wanted to link the theme of Artificial Intelligence to the Nuragic civilization, giving life to a unique experiment of its kind. Thanks to the new challenges related to innovation and applications that experts from all over the world will present on November 29", concludes Vargiu, "it will be possible to better understand the potential of the ancient Sardinian civilization for the future development and economic growth of Sardinia".
After the institutional greetings of the association, the representatives of the Municipality of Cagliari, the Region, the Fondazione di Sardegna partner of the Association, the University of Cagliari and Sassari, the heart of the work will be entered - moderated by Barbara Carfagna, journalist, author and Rai presenter - with the presentation of the EIA project, Ecosystems for Technological Innovation of "Sardinia towards UNESCO", introduced and analyzed on the occasion by Ivan Blecic and Massimo Deriu.
The theme and the state of the art in the speech entitled “AI, the future is now ” by Alberto Mattiello, business futurist expert in technological innovation, author, entrepreneur and keynote speaker.
And always about high technology and innovation, David Gallo, CEO & Managing Director of ONE-O-ONE Games and 101%, will talk, currently involved in gaming projects such as Aftermath (PS4 - XBox - PC game) - The Fading of Nicole Wilson (PS4 - XBox - PC game - Nintendo Switch) and Dante (PS4 - XBox - PC game - Nintendo Switch). Following, at the end of the morning's work, the speech by Salvatore Piazza, Executive account manager of Google Cloud for the Local Public Sector market.
The afternoon session will open with greetings from two partners of the association, who with “Sardinia towards UNESCO” share the path started for the UNESCO recognition of the Sardinian Nuragic heritage, the Barumini Foundation and the Mont'e Prama Foundation.
Stefano Quintarelli, founder of Rialto Venture Capital and member of the high-level expert group of the European Commission's Commission on Artificial Intelligence, will get to the heart of the afternoon's proceedings with his speech "Submarines don't swim".
Practical and applicative cases, with the Nuragic civilization at the center of the thematic windows to follow. We will start with the analysis of Maurizio Forte, Professor of Classical Studies, History of Art and Visual Arts at Duke University and Italian Academy Fellow, Fall 2024: “Back to the Future, How Artificial Intelligence Revolutionizes the Perception of the Past” is the title of his speech. Mark Altaweel, Professor of Near Eastern Archaeology and Archaeological Data Science at University College London, will talk about “Discriminative and Generative Artificial Intelligence for Cultural Heritage: Applications and Challenges”.
And again, Lucio Pascarelli, former UN manager with over 40 years of experience in the ICT sector and AI expert will address the topic of “The importance of data: chatbots and other AI”. “Digital twins and the Nuragic civilization: between archaeology, history and popular traditions” is instead the title of the speech by Franco Niccolucci, Scientific Director Vast Lab – PIN University of Florence.
The closing of the event will be entrusted to Francesco Pigliaru, economist of the University of Cagliari and CREnOS with a speech entitled “AI: co-intelligence. Some temporary conclusions”.
