What until recently was only documented in ancient papers or told by the elders of the village, is now seen and touched. In Nurachi, around and under the area where the two aqueducts were built, one in the 1920s and one in the 1960s, there was a nuraghe. Or rather: part of this nuragic structure is still there. It is the result of the first archaeological research that began in 2021, a sort of bet by the municipal administration led by the mayor Renzo Ponti.

«He wanted to understand the origin of those two large basalt boulders that have always sprouted from the peripheral wall of the area that houses the two towers now managed by Abbanoa - said the mayor - That's why I did everything to have the 'area. A way to understand our origins».

Hence the research project “Pischendi. The rediscovery of the origins” , carried out under the scientific direction of the Archaeological Superintendency and financed by the Municipality of Nurachi and the Fondazione di Sardegna with the aim of telling the ancient history of the town.

«First we started with the general cleaning - said Maura Vargiu, area official of the Superintendence during the presentation this afternoon of the results of the excavations completed last December - Basalt boulders immediately came to light which immediately seemed to us to belong to a well-defined circular structure that extended in various parts, even under one of the two towers. The size of this makes us think that there is a very important building underneath».

Several objects of daily life were also discovered during the excavations . However, the searches are not over. The works will continue once the Municipality manages to recover other resources.
