Dynamism and resilience, with a promising figure coming from youth-led businesses. In the first quarter of 2026, in the province of Nuoro, active businesses under 35 grew by 26.4%, while nationally they declined by 1.8%. This is according to an analysis by the Economic Observatory of the Nuoro Chamber of Commerce for the first three months of the year.

The local business system, despite still having a slightly negative balance (456 registrations versus 466 cancellations), shows signs of improvement compared to 2025: new registrations increased by 10.7% and terminations decreased by 10.6%, in contrast to the national trend.

Local businesses are also growing (+60.6% openings, -10.8% closures), confirming the ability of businesses to expand. Among sectors, tourism is leading the way (+50% registrations), followed by business services (+33.3%), trade (+21.4%), and manufacturing-energy (+41.7%). Construction is weaker (-5.2%), while agriculture remains the sector with the highest number of registrations but with a negative balance.

Employment also increased, with 51,964 workers (+1%), driven primarily by small businesses (10-49 workers, +6.6%). Finally, bankruptcies and insolvency proceedings remained stable, at 6 cases.

"The data for the first quarter of 2026 confirm that the province of Nuoro is not simply holding its ground, but is also showing growth capacity above the national average in several areas," observes Maria Luisa Ariu, head of the Economic Observatory of the Nuoro Chamber of Commerce. "Particularly striking are the vitality of business start-ups, the strong growth in tourism, the growth of trade and business services, and the dynamism of young entrepreneurs, which truly bodes well for the future. These are important signs, which continue to portray a reactive region capable of expressing new energy. Naturally, some weaknesses remain, but the overall picture, compared to national averages, paints a picture of a province that is outperforming the rest of the country in many sectors."
