Nuoro: complex neurosurgical intervention on a Covid positive patient

A complex neurosurgery was performed two days ago at the San Francesco hospital in Nuoro on a Covid positive patient with a particularly high viral load. The structure thus confirms itself as an example of excellent healthcare even during the health emergency.
The complex spinal neuro-traumatology operation was carried out with the doctors completely harnessed for a few hours.
"The patient - explains Maurizio Paulis, director of the Neurosurgery Unit of the San Francesco Hospital - presented a dislocation with fracture of the vertebral column, at the cervical level (C5, C6), which made the work of the anesthetist who, with great skill and professionalism, intubated the patient while awake and allowed the stabilization of the cervical spine to be successful ".
Not only are Neurosurgery involved, but also the Anesthesia and Intensive Care Unit, led by Peppino Paffi, and the nursing team of the Operating Block, headed by Roberto Sogos.
Also last Thursday, January 13, an intervention was carried out on patient-Covid which saw the Urology Unit in action, directed by Giampaolo Cossu.
"In recent months - confirms the director of the Presidium and head of the Operating Block, Grazia Cattina - throughout the pandemic emergency, the hospital has undergone enormous changes and has contributed considerably to the containment of the various problems, which from time to time emerged, demonstrating high availability and flexibility. Even more so since it is no longer Covid hospital. This is demonstrated by these exceptional examples of treatment of patients in emergency, for whom it was obviously impossible to transfer to other Covid centers ".
