Bureaucracy puts the production of Nieddittas, a leading company in the mussel farming sector, at risk . Sediments have accumulated along the supply channel near the plant, blocking the regular flow of water necessary for the operation of the plants.

Production is compromised and without immediate intervention " the activity risks stopping with dramatic consequences for the entire production sector in terms of lost production, employment and risks for the ecosystem of the fishery".

The alarm was raised by Nieddittas and Coldiretti themselves, who asked for immediate intervention from the Region, writing a letter to the competent departments.

"If production were to stop, there would be significant damage due to the lack of production, putting numerous jobs at risk - underlines Caterina Murgia, CEO of Nieddittas - mussel farming is a strategic sector for the Sardinian economy and an interruption of the supply chain would have very serious repercussions for the entire region, not least the risks for the protection of the marine ecosystem of the entire area".

A late intervention could lead to a paralysis that would have repercussions on the entire supply chain and the territory, from transporters to retailers, up to restaurateurs who work with the Sardinian product.

Commitments have already been made for dredging the canal, but the expected timescales are long, explains Coldiretti, which underlines the need to "identify alternative and immediate measures that allow regular production activity to be restored" .

"It is unthinkable that a productive reality of excellence is brought to its knees by bureaucratic inertia. Rapid solutions are needed to avoid irreparable damage," explains the association.
