The bodies were elected almost two weeks ago, the staff is in place and fully operational. But for the State, the new provinces of Sardinia still don't exist .
Democratic Party MP Silvio Lai denounces it. Four of the island's provinces are "invisible" to the state, the new ones: Sulcis Iglesiente, Gallura, Medio Campidano, and Ogliastra .
"The Region completed all the formalities, sending all official communications to the relevant ministries between July and August. Despite this, the government has not yet assigned the ISTAT, tax, and vehicle identification codes, nor updated the national databases ," explains the parliamentarian, who has submitted a question to the ministers of the Interior, Economy, Infrastructure, and Regional Affairs.
A delay, explains Lai, which "blocks budgets and transfers, impedes the collection of provincial taxes and causes damage estimated at over 12 million a year ."
Specifically: the 2026-2028 budgets cannot be approved; provincial taxes (IPT, a vehicle tax paid when purchasing a car, and RCA, the tax paid to car insurance agencies) cannot be collected ; the Provinces are not included in the State Accounting Office and the Public Administration Database; the PNRR and FSC funds allocated to the Provinces risk being blocked because there is no agency code .
The situation is "paradoxical," thunders Lai, and "symbolizes this government's inaction toward Sardinia ." "The Region," concludes the MP, "has done its duty; now it's the state that's failing to do so. This is a violation of the principle of loyal cooperation and a blow to Sardinian autonomy."
