One of the great interpreters of Italian theatre, much loved by the public and very attached to the Island, Neri Marcorè, arrives in Cagliari with “La Buona Novella” by Fabrizio De André in the theatrical transposition of the first concept album by the Genoese singer-songwriter , inspired by the figure of Jesus of Nazareth and the reading of the Apocryphal Gospels, in the form of a chamber opera, with dramaturgy and direction by Giorgio Gallione, arrangements and musical direction by Paolo Silvestri for an exceptional co-production of the Teatro Stabile di Bolzano, Teatro Carcano, Fondazione Teatro della Toscana, Marche Teatro and Teatro Nazionale di Genova.
After the great success at the Teatro Comunale in Sassari, the play, one of the most anticipated events of the Grande Prosa season organized by CeDAC / Circuito Multidisciplinare dello Spettacolo dal Vivo chaired by Antonio Cabiddu and directed by Valeria Ciabattoni, will be on stage at the Teatro Massimo, in regional premiere, until Sunday 16th starting at 8.30 pm on weekdays, while on Saturday and Sunday the curtain will rise at 7.30 pm and 7 pm respectively.
The spotlight is on the eclectic actor, impersonator and singer, radio and television host, as well as voice actor, a well-known face on the big and small screen, who recently moved behind the camera with “Zamora”, a nomination for the Nastri d'Argento and the Flaiano Award for best direction, starring on stage together with the actress and singer Rosanna Naddeo and the ensemble formed by Giua (voice and guitar), Barbara Casini (voice, guitar and percussion), Anais Drago (violin and voice), Francesco Negri (piano) and Alessandra Abbondanza (voice and accordion) to the tunes of Fabrizio De André, Gian Piero Reverberi and Corrado Castellari, in a fascinating show, embellished by the sets by Marcello Chiarenza, the costumes by Francesca Marsella and the lighting design by Aldo Mantovani, in which narration and songs intertwine.
Neri Marcorè confronts the charm of a modern Sacred Representation, an absolute masterpiece of the unforgettable Ligurian artist, the poet of the last who chose Sardinia as his adopted land where he lived the joys and sorrows of an extraordinary life that left its mark on the history of contemporary music.
“La Buona Novella” retraces the story of the carpenter's son who became a preacher and crowd-charmer, venerated by his disciples as the Son of God, drawing inspiration from the great Christian tradition but also from the Protoevangelium of James as well as from the Armenian Gospel of Infancy and from fragments of pseudo-Matthew: the concept album contains songs that are emblematic of a vision that is both secular and respectful of religious sensitivity, in which after the initial “Laudate Dominum”, “Mary's Childhood”, “Joseph's Return”, “Mary's Dream” and “Ave Maria” follow, then “Mary in the Carpenter's Shop”, the bitter “Via della Croce” and the poignant song of the “Three Mothers”, “Titus' Testament” and the final “Laudate Hominem”.
Fabrizio De André highlights the human and divine nature of Christ, in a happy alchemy between music and poetry, and addresses complex and current themes in a very refined sound dramaturgy, preserving the mystery of a charismatic figure, the fulcrum of Western thought and civilization, whose powerful message, too often unheard or distorted, still shakes consciences today and lays bare contradictions and paradoxes, injustices and hypocrisy of society.
