On 15 December 1964, Italy launched the San Marco 1 satellite from the United States, thus allowing Italy to position itself third in the Olympus of powers capable of reaching the cosmos, together with the USA and the Soviet Union. To commemorate this historic event, the government has proclaimed December 16 as " National Space Day ".

With this celebration we want to bring to public awareness both the effective impact that science and astronomical activities have in everyday life in terms of benefits and technologies as well as the reputation enjoyed by Italy , its research institutions and organizations such as the Italian Space Agency (ASI) .

For this second edition of the National Space Day, ASI promoted 74 events throughout the country . The Unione Sarda Planetarium has joined this event with an event that will take place this evening, Friday 16 December at 8 pm , in the Planetarium headquarters in Piazza Unione Sarda. " Italy in Space " is the title of the projection that will lead the guests of the planetarium to get to know the sky of these nights and Italy's role in space.
