Raid by Forza Italia MEP, Alessandra Mussolini, to ask for a reduction in VAT on sanitary towels.

The Italian presented herself at the press conference on the European Commission's budgetary guidelines for 2024 with Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis and European Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni. "Happy Women's Day," Mussolini said to Gentiloni at the end of the meeting, handing him a tampon. "The one with wings costs more," he said.

"He too should take action to bring VAT to 0%", he added, showing the cameras a sanitary napkin with the recipient's name and the words "VAT 0%" in red marker.

"No more taboos on tampons and blood, the EU should intervene and reduce taxation on these products necessary for women's life and health ," he added. "As a delegation from Forza Italia we ask for 0% tax on sanitary pads, paid menstrual leave and the harmonization in all member states of the rules concerning health rights and gender equality".
