Via the permanent opening to the public of the Muacc, the Museum of contemporary arts and cultures of the University of Cagliari .

The structure - in an initial experimental phase - will be open to the public from 16 to 19 every Tuesday and every Thursday, but visits at different times and days can also be agreed upon booking.

The spaces occupy the ground floor and the first floor of a building in via Santa Croce, in the heart of Castello : the Palazzo dei Marchesi di Quirra , also known as Palazzo Cugia or Palazzo Nieddu. The works donated to the University by the Italo Antico artist are currently displayed in the museum spaces.

"This idea - said the rector Francesco Mola - started with Maria Del Zompo , and immediately fascinated us: thank you for the work done, which we want to carry on. Entering the widespread museum system is a fundamental idea: to have a structure like this that starts from the University and is intertwined with the life of the city is very important to us ".

The start of the Muacc activities was made possible thanks to the work of the curator, Simona Campus . "Taking care of a museum also means taking care of the relationships with the people who gravitate around it, not just the works" he underlined. "The museum exists if it is open to the public, and is intended as a laboratory that involves the community in its experiments".

"The university has made many investments to enhance all the assets it possesses - added the general director Aldo Urru - making it available to the territory and to those coming from outside. We have managed to open this museum, compatibly with the resources available. Now we have to put it into a system, carrying out the agreements for the single ticket in agreement with the Municipality of Cagliari and the coordinated routes with the other cultural assets of the city ".

Also present at the opening was the municipal councilor for culture, Maria Dolores Picciau . "The museum opens in a very particular historical context - he said - but is part of a calendar of important events and in a district like Castello which must rediscover its history and identity".
