From the “premiere” in Villasalto last summer to the awards at international film festivals. The docufilm “Solo Pietre” by Gabriele Carrus, a young and emerging director from Muravera, was in fact awarded at the Abhu Dabi International Film (United Arab Emirates) and at the Queen City Film Festival (Cincinnati, Ohio). In other festivals - among many in India, Russia and England - it has just been selected for the finals in the categories of best director, best screenplay and best soundtrack.

The docufilm, produced by the director himself in collaboration with the Limen Sarrabus Gerrei association, was shot between the mines of Villasalto and the most evocative corners of Gerrei and Sarrabus. Set in 1940, its protagonist is Luigi (played by Giuseppe Farci, the other actress is Letizia Collu), a mining engineer of Sardinian origin sent to Sardinia to increase the production of antimony in view of the outbreak of war. The journey will renew his passion for the testimonies of the ancient Nuragic civilization.

The screenplay is by Massimo Mazzoni, the director of photography is Luca Valdes and the composer Gabriele Di Girolamo. For Carrus, a great satisfaction: «I'm pleased», explains the director, «that it is appreciated overseas. In this way we manage to make the history of Sardinia and the wonder of the archaeological sites reach everywhere."
