There are 14 Sardinian municipalities, among those who renewed the councils in the electoral round of the administrative offices of 10 and 11 October last, which still do not respect the Delrio law of 2014 on gender equality in the composition of the council. And the Regional Commission for Equal Opportunities notes "with concern and bitterness what happened" highlighting "that from the monitoring carried out in Sardinian municipalities with a population of more than 3 thousand inhabitants, 51.9% did not comply with the legal obligations in the composition of Joined ".

The Commission considers it essential to remind "all mayors and mayors, elected in Sardinia, the importance of guaranteeing the general principle of equal opportunities, as enshrined in art. 51 of the Constitution, and of ensuring the presence of both the sexes in the councils and in the collegiate bodies of the Municipality, as well as of the entities, companies and institutions they depend on ".

"Furthermore - explain the Commission - in Municipalities with a population of more than 3 thousand inhabitants, the guarantee of equal opportunities in the councils is clearly expressed by the legislator through a binding obligation that attributes a binding numerical value, a minimum percentage of representation of 40%, measuring below which neither sex can be represented, with arithmetic rounding ".

The Commission specifies that the mayor or mayor must also be taken into account in the calculation of the percentage, as they are members of the council itself.

"The actual achievement of equality and equal opportunities on a political, economic and social level in our Region - the conclusion - will in fact only take place when it is no longer necessary to invoke laws to see the fundamental principles of equal opportunities applied, necessary indicators of the growth of our country".
