More and more foreigners are looking for a home in Sardinia. A real boom that follows the excellent performance already recorded in 2022: in January 2023, compared to the same month last year, requests for homes on the island grew by 29.41%. In the province of Sassari they more than doubled, +101.3% .

The data is contained in the latest report of the Gate-away.com portal, dedicated exclusively to foreign citizens who want to buy a house on the island.

As for January preferences, Sassari is clearly confirmed in first place with 77% of the total requests, followed by Southern Sardinia with 10.35% and the Cagliari area with 5% .

The most requested municipality is La Maddalena, 11.8% of the requests on the monthly total. Followed by Badesi, 8.8%, Trinità d'Agultu and Vignola who, like Budoni, account for 7.32% . Compared to the same month of 2022, the greatest growth is instead detected in Castelsardo, +180% .

Already in 2022 the data was excellent with a +27% of searches compared to 2021. Strong growth in all provinces with the exception of Cagliari : it is 48.64% in Southern Sardinia, +43.14% in the Sassari area, +12. 36% in the Oristano area.

WHO IS LOOKING FOR, WHAT IS LOOKING FOR AND WHY

Foreigners mainly look for villas (35.61% of the total), followed by apartments (20.06%) and terraced houses (10.68%). The house must be new or completely renovated for which 90% of the people who are looking for it. 70.23% want a garden, two out of three are looking for one without a swimming pool.

The greatest requests come from the United States, 23% of the total. Germany follows with 18.8%, the United Kingdom 8.42% and France 6.59 . The Spaniards are also growing strongly, whose requests increased by 211% in 2022 compared to the previous year.

Let's move on to the price ranges : 38.78% of foreigners are looking for homes between 100 and 250 thousand euros, 22.75% between 250 and 500, 20.49% under 100 thousand euros, 9.18% above million and 8.8% between half a million and a million.

Almost all of those looking for a home on the island are over 46 years old, this is the breakdown by age group: 46% between 56 and 65, 29% over 66, 20% between 46 and 55 , 4% between 36 and 45, 1% in the 18-35 age group.

Looking for a home in Italy for retirement, to change life or to spend long periods of vacation. 22% also want a permanent transfer. Obstacles to purchase? Bureaucracy, according to one in four potential buyers, excessive taxation according to 24% .
