The en plein of the wide field in Sardinia fades. After victories in the first round in Cagliari, Sassari, Alghero and Sinnai, the centre-left lost in the run-off in Monserrato, which chose to elect Tomaso Locci as mayor for the third time .

The outgoing mayor, at the head of a civic coalition, won by just 185 votes over his challenger Valentina Picciau . Locci obtained 4,122 preferences, 51.15% according to the definitive data available on the Eligendo portal. Picciau stopped at 3,937, 48.85% .

The coalition of civic lists that supports Locci goes to 12 places in the city council: 7 in Monserrato Libera, 3 in Monserrato Futura and 2 in Monserrato Metropolitana . In addition to Picciau, the exponents of the broad camp also enter the council chamber: one seat each for Pd, M5s, Ora Sardegna, Progressisti-La Svolta and Fratelli d'Italia .

The other two challengers in the first round were also elected councilors: Alberto Corda and Efisio Sanna , the latter candidate of the Democratic Party, who decided to support Picciau in the run-off.

Locci celebrated the victory in the afternoon, wearing a red t-shirt with the Ferrari emblem and hugging his supporters at the election headquarters. In the first round - two weeks ago - he obtained 40.2% of the preferences, with Valentina Picciau who stopped at 21.5%. Only 47.13% of eligible voters voted in the runoff, compared to 56.57% in the first round .
