One million euro fine to Sky Italia for providing misleading information on the football package.

According to the Antitrust Authority a year ago, the company erroneously hinted at its subscribers that they could continue to watch Serie A matches, as happened in the previous season. As is well known, however, the rights went to Dazn and Sky broadcasts only three games for each match day.

The Authority ascertained that Sky Italia, in violation of art. 21 of the Consumer Code, in spring 2021 represented a situation of uncertainty regarding the award of Serie A rights, suggesting the possibility for its subscribers to continue to enjoy the contents relating to the Serie A championship.

After the conclusion of the tender for the assignment of television rights, Sky Italia was aware that it could not offer the Sky Calcio package in the previous composition. Despite this, the company has also provided its customers with information that did not allow them to understand the actual content of the offer relating to the Sky Calcio package for the 2021/2022 season, hinting at the possibility that the offer could remain unchanged compared to the past. .

The customer already subscribed to the services of the company, and in particular to the Football package, was therefore oriented to keep the package in place, with a view to being able to take advantage of the promised discounts for the summer months but also, subsequently, to be able to withdraw without penalties. , explains the Antitrust.

Sky for its part "takes note" but speaks of an "unfounded" decision and "is preparing to assert its reasons in the competent forums".

"Sky - reads a company note - has in fact promptly provided its subscribers with all the information that gradually became available in the context of objective uncertainty that characterized the assignment of the Serie A football championship rights for the three-year period 2021 2024 ".
