After the revolt of the Sardinian shepherds in February 2019, Copagri announced the publication in the Official Gazette of the ministerial decree defining the procedures for applying the mandatory declarations in the milk and dairy products sector in the sheep and goat sector.

This is one of the claims made by "shepherds without flags" and by agricultural organizations in the hot days of the demonstrations.

Communications on the quantities of milk delivered and produced will be borne by the first purchasers of the product (industrial or cooperative), but there will also be quarterly ones on processing and, therefore, produced cheese and stocks, thus orienting both the public and sector players towards a new sector planning.

"It has been eight years - explained the director of Copagri Sardegna Pietro Tandeddu - that Copagri had requested the application of the Community Regulation 1308/2013 on the Ocm Unica to give transparency to the sector through the communications of the milk delivered, but while the sector cow's milk was regulated in a short time, sheep and goat milk suffered inexplicable delays which slowed down the procedure ".

“At this point, a rapid implementation of the information system becomes essential, putting an end to the controversy about stocks and quantities of milk produced. Once the mandatory communication has been established, we will finally be aware of the productive dimension of the sector, of the quantities and types of cheeses produced and of warehouse stocks ”, he added.

"With the certainty of the data, we will finally have the possibility of orienting sectoral programming policies, with reference to the production phase and to the other segments of the supply chain; the knowledge of stocks, for example, can in the event of excesses give a boost to self-regulation of Pecorino Romano production, which has encountered many difficulties up to now, as a function of price stability ", explained the president of Copagri Sardegna Ignazio Cirronis.
