Another gold medal for Italy in women's skiing at the Milan-Cortina Games : Federica Brignone won, also a superb Giant Slalom , after having already triumphed in the Super-G . An extraordinary feat for the Italian champion, despite the very serious injury she suffered just a few months before the start of the Winter Olympics.

A bitter taste in the mouth for Lara Della Mea , who finished a splendid third until her teammate's descent, which set the fastest time, knocking her off the podium, leaving her fourth, just 5 hundredths of a second behind. It was also a disappointment for Sofia Goggia , who after a strong first run failed to repeat her performance and only managed tenth place overall. Asja Zenere was further behind, finishing fourteenth.

On the podium, the Swedish Hector, second, and the Norwegian Stjernesund, third: both   After the winner's descent, they rushed to her and knelt down in admiration.

"I swear," Brignone told Rai Sport after her victory, " I'm so speechless I can't understand anything. Today I was way too calm, I was afraid I wasn't aggressive enough... then I just thought about skiing and pushing, and when I crossed the finish line and saw I was first, I didn't understand anything anymore."

Brignone's gold allows the Italian team to equal the record for medals won at the Winter Games : twenty podiums have been achieved so far by Italian athletes at Milan-Cortina, the same number achieved at the Lillehammer Olympics in 1994.
