Twenty years later, the Olympic Flame will once again light up the streets of Oristano . The date to mark in red on your calendar is Sunday, December 14: Eleonora's city will be the ninth stop on the long journey towards the highly anticipated Milan Cortina Games , scheduled for February 6-22, 2026.
An ancestral rite, which will start from Olympia on November 26th with the lighting of the torch, before arriving in Rome on December 4th .
After two days, the journey will begin and in 63 days it will touch 60 Italian cities for a total of 12 thousand kilometers.
“It is an immense source of pride” - comments with satisfaction the Sports Councillor, Antonio Franceschi, who in recent days submitted to the Council the proposed agreement between the Fondazione Milano Cortina and the Municipality through which the passage of the “sacred fire” through the streets of the centre is regulated in nine points .
The Olympic caravan will land in Sardinia on December 13th, first stop in Nuoro, then the next day the spotlight will turn on Oristano .
“There will be thirteen torchbearers who will take turns along the route that starts from Via Tirso and reaches Piazza Roma, Corso Umberto, Piazza Eleonora, Via Duomo, Piazza Manno and Via Cagliari - Franceschi says - then the flame will move to Cagliari, before setting sail for Palermo”.
The names of the athletes who will have the honor of participating in the relay are still top secret, but it is likely that the home champions will also be lifting the torch: Stefano Oppo , silver medalist at Paris 2024, has already been contacted for the occasion. “The technicians of the Fondazione Milano Cortina will soon carry out an inspection of the city to verify the route", concludes the councilor.
