Quartu is also participating in "Maggio dei Libri" (Book May) with a series of meetings and initiatives organized by the city's library network. One of these is "The Words That Remain: A Writing Journey Through Memory and Imagination," a free creative writing course. The meetings will be held at the Flumini Library starting Wednesday from 5 to 6:30 pm. Claudia Zucca, professor of Glottodidactics at the University of Cagliari, will lead the course. The course consists of eight sessions, scheduled every Wednesday afternoon, and offers a journey through reading and writing through the works of authors such as Natalia Ginzburg, Margaret Atwood, and Zadie Smith, along with the powerful verses of Alda Merini.
Different voices show how literature can emerge from everyday life, memory, relationships, and the observation of small things. Each meeting is structured to offer a welcoming and stimulating experience: a short introductory reading, a guided writing exercise to explore your own voice, and, for those who wish, a space to share with the group. There will be no assessments or scores, just the pleasure of writing and listening.
The children's library on Via Dante will host "In May, Stories Bloom in the Trees." This initiative represents a new step in the early reading promotion project proposed by the Minuscola cultural association, supported by the Center for Books and Reading, and implemented in collaboration with the city's Urban Library System. Four events are scheduled, designed to involve newborns, new parents, and expectant mothers and fathers, as well as educators and cultural workers. Tuesday, May 12 – ages 0-2; Thursday, May 14 – ages 3-6; Thursday, May 21 – ages 3-6; and Tuesday, May 26 – ages 0-2. All meetings will be held at 4:30 pm. Through read-aloud activities, the project aims to stimulate children's listening skills, guide parents through their children's development, and prepare those approaching parenthood. The initiative also involves healthcare workers, librarians, teachers, booksellers, and educators, with the aim of spreading and strengthening the practice of shared reading from early childhood.
