Martina Tore, actress from Nuoro: "Giving up my Sardinian accent was like cutting my roots"

A Sardinian face in the new advertising campaign launched by the well-known “Philadelphia” brand. It is that of Martina Tore, 33, born in Nuoro but raised in Olbia , where the family moved for work reasons.

In the spot that will be broadcast before one of the evenings of the Eurovision Song Contest , on Rai Uno, from today to May 14, the actress is among the protagonists of the short promotional film.

“A great campaign - confirms Martina to L'Unione Sarda - based on important themes”. Social issues that are close to her heart - but nothing can be anticipated - and it is not the first time she has acted bringing delicate topics to the stage. Last year, in Olbia, under the direction of Giada Degortes, she was part of a show focused on women who, during the coronavirus pandemic, took their own lives. "An opportunity to investigate their stories, those of three women of very close age, who seemed to have a very satisfying life - explains the actress -, with families full of love, two with very close relationships with the Church , in short, also with an accentuated spiritual part. Yet victims of the evil of living. I played one of these women, and it helped me to understand the depth and the need to do this job, which is important from a social point of view. It is necessary that someone give voice to this taboo which is depression, this is also the function of the theater ”.

Did your studies help you in this analysis?

"Probably yes. After high school I realized that mathematics did not interest me but I was more fascinated by literary subjects. I graduated in History and Philosophy in Bologna, Turin and Erasmus in Valencia ”.

And when did acting arrive?

“After a very different path. I worked for Maserati, basically I was selling cars, in the summer in Porto Cervo in the Harrods warehouses, in the winter in the mountains in Courmayeur, Livigno, Cortina, Ortisei. I was the contact figure between the customer and the dealer. An experience that lasted 5 years and was very formative. Empathy has certainly given me an advantage, it is not a boast but a good aspect of people that always matters ”.

What happened then?

“I received a very interesting offer from Mercedes. I should have moved to Perugia, but instead I messed up the cards and made a 'belly' choice: an audition in an acting academy in Rome. It went well, I managed to get in, and it all started from there ".

Had he decided what his future would be?
“I really wanted to know the world of acting, I was interested in experiencing the emotion of the human being in the field and being able to cross them, transmit them. Then I was the oldest, I was 28, the others were all very young. This scared me a little but it didn't stop me. I know that, like sportsmen, those who make a career are those who start very early, yet I was too curious to be influenced by my age, although I certainly didn't have that expectation or that impetus that kids have towards the dream of life ".

Were there any shows that left you with something more?

“Yes, 'Chekhov hurts', in 2019, alongside professional actors such as Sergio Basile and Barbara Scoppa. Among other things, it is very current because it tells of the 30s and 40s in Russia, the period of the repression of the role of theater that was used by politics as a propaganda form and limited the use for which it was born instead: the freedom of to be able to express themselves. And there are those who died for this, for the will to do free theater ".

Why did they choose her for the Philadelphia commercial?

"They said my face corresponded to the character they were looking for, with features not specifically Italian, rather European in general."

How did you get to the audition?

“Through a Milanese agency that proposed my photos, from there the casting”.

In the role of actress she will have to speak in Italian without inflections, without a Sardinian accent.

"Unfortunately. And I say unfortunately because I was very sorry to remove that note that characterizes my roots, it seems to me that I am doing a wrong to my origins. The diction studies have neutralized speech, my land is no longer heard in my accent, I don't deny that it was a bit painful passage ”.

Dreams in the drawer?

“They are there but they change all the time. I still have little experience to decide, so far I can say that more than anything else I think about the theater, and continue to study. Now I'm preparing a project in Rome, a comedy, probably for the end of September, directed by Francesco Proietti ”.

Are you inspired by some famous person?

“Not one in particular: I try to get close to those who, with great seriousness, take this profession as a discipline and are not satisfied with TV and popularity. To those who go to sweat on the stage of a theater, even a small one. Humble actors, who, however, have such a preparation that they do not need to rise up. In short, who is talkative without making too much noise ".

His motto on Facebook is: "Excluding the Dog ... All the others are Bad". What does it mean?

“It is a phrase from a song by Rino Gaetano. I have an immeasurable love for dogs, I think that the human being has peaks of malice that make not only the recipients feel bad but also those who manifest them. The dog does not know malice but instinct, aggression is only defense, it is not capable of intentionally hurting. Men, on the other hand, use their wickedness, this thing cannot be undermined ”.

Fiancée?

“Yes, with a boy of Neapolitan origin. He has always supported me on this path, in this choice which is not ordinary and which is not understood by everyone. My sister is also an important person in my life: Emanuela, who is seven years older than me and lives in London, has been very incisive in my humanistic path, she is a social worker, inclusive with the least of society and far from any social prejudice. He's a great role model for me ”.

What do they say about your career in your family?

“We are all very united. My father, when I went out with a 'I'm going to study acting in Rome', said he was happy: 'I didn't see you all my life in a dealership or around selling cars'. My mother was more afraid. Even though now she sees the first results and is the first to buy plane tickets to reach me in Rome, she has often got in the way: 'Give yourself a time, Martina - she repeated - because otherwise you risk missing trains'. And even now I ask myself: yes, but which ones? With a smile, perhaps he spoke of what all parents are 'trains', but children have theirs ".
