“We called them 'piled up', majorities like the one on which Draghi stands, and then we went inside. And we got so close to the Democratic Party, after having mistreated Bersani in a way that did us no honor. We have lost a lot of our identity, but it is not by bringing down the government that we will find the lost voters on the street ». Mario Puddu, former mayor of Assemini, leading exponent of the Cinquestelle in Sardinia, is very unconvinced of the move by head Giuseppe Conte: the exit of the deputies when voting on the confidence that the government had placed on the "Aid" decree, who had just voted. And now Mario Draghi ties Conte hand and foot to that decision, with his resignation, waiting to see what will happen on Wednesday. Pudduè torn on tomorrow: «I feel tied to the Movement, but my friends are with Luigi Di Maio and he himself is: I have to decide what to do. I'm certainly not as close to Alessandra Todde and Ettore Licheri, to understand ». I have to decide whether to leave M5S and move to Together for the future, together with the Foreign Minister, and it's not a walk in the park ».

Did Conte take you off guard by saying that the government experience was over due to the behavior of the M5S?

«Oh, yes, it has taken the consequences of this decision to the extreme, which I find inopportune. Now for the Movement it is not easy at all: a decision taken to recover voters actually risks losing others and provoking a new split, or a second exodus towards Together for the future. We are not doing a good deal: we, and not even the country ».

So, did the failure to vote on confidence have electoral purposes?

«I don't see other solutions, and I say this with great regret. To leave the majority now, or at least to make the internal critical voice as it was in the intentions of us Cinquestelle, at this moment it was really too late. It should have been understood. And it should have been imagined that every action corresponds to a reaction. and that does not establish it to whoever carries out the action ».

Well, Draghi went out of his way to corner M5S because he left the courtroom before the confidence vote.

“Exactly, and now the hot potato is in our hands, and it carries with it the risk of further divisions. Indeed, lacerations. Draghi, if he is not prime minister, lives a life at the top anyway and we have not understood it ».

What will she do?

«Leaving the Cinquestelle would be a great pain for me: I am thinking about it a lot precisely for this reason, although I am convinced that we are seriously wrong, because in any case I would live this choice with great suffering of the soul. However, I cannot ignore what damage the wrong choice made for trust is doing. I have to think, I'm not in a hurry ».

The Cinquestelle have done things they previously declared war on.

“But in fact: we knew well that alliances lead to the loss of large shares of identity, it did not happen by chance. We talked about piles. and then we went in the majority with all the parties except the Brothers of Italy, who are happy in the opposition. Do our leaders really think that a few months in the opposition, moreover without having decided to go there but having been sent there by Draghi, would have made us full of votes? The opposite will happen ».

Is the experience of Draghi premier really over?

“Ah, I don't know that. I must say that President Mattarella surprised me a lot, who, instead of taking note of Draghi's resignation, sent him to the Chambers. But this does not mean that Draghi cannot decide to leave anyway, burying the Cinquestelle, who will be found guilty by the country ».
