Maria Romana De Gasperi died in the night in Rome at the age of 99. Italian essayist and politician, as well as founder and president of the De Gasperi Foundation, she was born in Trento on March 19, 1923 and was the eldest of Alcide De Gasperi's four daughters.

In 2021 the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella had appointed her to be a Knight of the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.

This was announced in the Chamber by the deputy of the Democratic Party Flavia Piccoli Nardelli at the opening of the session: "I remember a person who I think was dear to many of us. She was a very lucid person and very attentive to what was happening around her. She lived next door to the father the most difficult moments of our history, I am sure that the memory of her and of the figure of her father will remain ".

The Forza Italia deputy Simone Baldelli also joined the memory of De Gasperi: "She was a partisan relay and she dedicated part of her life to spreading her father's cultural and political activity".

For her also the moving memory of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, who sent his family a message in which he remembers "the affectionate and active closeness to the work of Alcide De Gasperi in crucial moments in the history of the Republic and the constant and precious commitment to preserve and spread the memory ".
