The Caseificio Antonio Garau dal 1880 in Mandas has won the nomination for the prestigious national Italian Cheese Awards competition and will enter the finals which will be held in Ancona next November.

The Italian Cheese Award is the most important recognition dedicated to the best Italian dairy products created with the aim of making known, enhancing and rewarding the excellence of cheeses. It is organized by the "Guru Comunicazione" company, which has been engaged for years in promoting the sector with initiatives, meetings and events dedicated to dairy art. The Award also aims to raise awareness of typical and artisanal products made only with Italian milk and rennet, thus stimulating the improvement of the quality of the entire supply chain.

Caseificio Garau wins the nomination with its Piccolo Giunco pecorino in the "fresh" category. Only three cheeses will compete in the final, which will be held on November 10th in Ancona, for the awarding of the first prize. A few days ago in Cittadella, in Veneto, there were nominations and on that occasion the Trexenta company received the nomination together with three other dairies based in Veneto, Puglia and Piedmont. The designations were made on 4 distinct companies, rather than the usual 3, since two cheeses obtained an ex aequo vote. «We are happy and proud to receive another recognition of excellence», underlines Marina Garau, CEO and sales director of the historic Sardinian company.

In 2022 the Grand Duke of Mandas was classified by Gambero Rosso as the best Sardinian pecorino cheese in the national and foreign market, in 2023 the Grand Duke of Mandas received the silver medal among the best pecorino cheeses in the world at the prestigious World Cheese Awards, this However, this year the important national nomination for the Italian Cheese Awards arrived. «For us, all this is an incentive to always give our best and to continue with passion the tradition started by our great-grandfather in 1880 and the innovation of the current fourth generation – continues Garau –; we also managed to arouse the curiosity of the authors of Linea Verde Life, a program broadcast on Rai 1, who, intent on preparing the episode dedicated to Cagliari in the San Benedetto Market, chose our point of sale for a chat about cheeses with the presenter Monica Caradonna."
