«More than a building or a group of buildings, it is the town that is placed at the center of the town».

This is the motivation for the IN/ARCHITETTURA 2023 award which the MaC Lula with its founder Domenico Fumagalli, its designer the architect Luca Zecchin and the Daga brothers' company which contributed to its creation, were awarded on Saturday 14 October in Cagliari .

The ceremony which was held at the Banco Di Sardegna foundation also awarded the special WTW (Willis Tower Watson) award to the project for how the recovery of some abandoned houses in the historic center of the town was conceived.

«By resorting to the poetics of the fragment and maintaining coherence through choices of simple language – we read in the award motivation – the project underlines the contemporary character without giving up the dialogue with the local construction tradition». And again: «A convincing approach that avoids the mimetic connection with the context that often transforms entire urban areas into folkloristic landscapes».

The award aroused great enthusiasm among those who have always seen the MaC Lula as a sort of cultural miracle in a place far from the large centers devoted to art.

«It is a source of great pride for us», says Domenico Fumagalli excitedly. «Much appreciated – we read in the motivation for the WTW award – is the final result of the work which develops in time and space, interpreting the values sought in recovery».
