Napoli is furious with Romelu Lukaku, who ultimately decided to continue his treatment in Belgium and refused to comply with the club's request to return to Italy.
There is a rift between the club and the striker, who was injured on August 14th. He spent months recovering in Belgium and then returned to Naples in November, but was unable to complete his recovery, playing only small portions of the final matches.
Belgian doctors say Lukaku has fluid in his hip flexor muscle and therefore requires further treatment. For this reason, the player remained for treatment with Lieven Maesschalck's team, who also treated teammate De Bruyne. However, the muscle issue was not confirmed by the Napoli medical staff, and so the striker was expected to return to Naples to resume training and undergo a check-up with Napoli's medical staff. This request from the club was shared by manager Antonio Conte, who has a strong bond with the striker, who, however, is currently not training.
The club then waited until the 11:30 training session and then, faced with his absence, issued a harsh official statement: "Napoli," the statement reads, "announces that the player Romelu Lukaku did not respond to today's call-up for the resumption of training. The club reserves the right to decide whether to take appropriate disciplinary action, as well as whether to continue the player's activity with the team on a permanent basis."
