The councilor for agriculture, Valeria Satta, met the mayors of the 26 municipalities devastated by the locust plague : «It was essential for me to meet the local administrators of the territories put to the test by the locust invasion. Today, together with the Laore agency, we are presenting the actions to be implemented as early as this spring in order to contain the phenomenon».

In addition to the Laore agency, the first citizens of Anela, Bono, Bortigali, Bultei, Dualchi and Noragugume took part in the meeting , in the Amphitheater hall in via Roma 253 in Cagliari , representing the territories of Marghine, and those of Olzai, Oniferi, Orani, Ottana, Sarule, Sedilo and Sorradile.

«We understand the mayors' frustration with the problem – said Satta -. Today's meeting served to understand what are the times and what actions to take in the short but also in the medium and long term , to act, all together, in a constructive manner. Thanks to a study conducted with the University of Sassari and with the collaboration of Agris and the FAO, the Laore technicians have developed an operational plan for the immediate containment of the phenomenon which, we hope, will be resolved in the coming years". .

«It is more important than ever - underlined the Councilor for Agriculture -, especially in this first operational phase of the plan, that all the interested subjects give their availability for monitoring and contrast actions. For this reason, we will see the Laore and Forestas teams operational , to which we will add the support of some barrier companies and the operators of the provinces concerned».

THE PLAN – As explained by the general management of Laore, « for the monitoring phase which will start at the end of February, the involvement will be required not only of the political side and of the regional agencies, but also of private subjects, farmers and breeders who, through the The Deomarco application, soon to be launched, or by reporting on WhatsApp, will be able to indicate the presence of grillare. The report will arrive in the Ottana operations center which, through geolocation, will make the teams dedicated to the operations of eliminating the larvae intervene. On the field there will be sprayers and knapsack pumps for localized treatments. On the other hand, the possibility of intervening with drones is being studied. In any case, on indications from the FAO, the interventions must not take place all at once, under penalty of compromising the ecosystem and agricultural fields. It will therefore be necessary to proceed with point treatments".

′′ With Regional Law 22 of 2020 - the assessor recalls - important resources had already been put on the field. In 2022, around 700 interventions were carried out which made it possible to contain the phenomenon, as highlighted by the ongoing rescouting phase. We are now acting in the preventive phase, developing solutions that we hope will also prove to be functional in the long term. At the moment this is the way to go."

«Starting from 23 February – Satta continues – the Laore agency will hold a series of meetings in the municipalities to illustrate the methods of action to the administrators, operators and citizens. Through the approval of a specific resolution, under discussion in the short term, the operations for the first phase of the intervention, which has already been studied, will be sent to Laore. Even the Phytosanitary Service of the Department has the operational program ready. We will follow Laore's operations step by step and we will go to the territories to directly evaluate the course - concludes the commissioner Satta -. I will shortly convene a table with the farmers to address with them the issue of livestock management during the treatment phases in the pastures».
