The victory of the top class Kz2 in the Karting Champions Cup closes the 2024 season of the 17-year-old driver from Cagliari Giorgio Basoli in style. The talented standard-bearer of Jesolo-Technology-Kart, who graduated in recent months as regional Karting champion in Kz2 and is also involved in the Italian Karting Championship, where he also achieved an U18 podium this season, last weekend in Battipaglia confirmed that he has what it takes to have his say at a national level too. At the end of the three-day event scheduled on the Sele Circuit, and after having signed a third place in Race 1 and dominated Race 2, Basoli climbed onto the top step of the podium, winning the top class Kz2.
In Race 1, fourth in qualifying, the driver from Cagliari immediately took the lead and kept it for 7 laps, until the unfortunate loss of the gear knob, an unexpected event that affected him significantly, but which he managed with cold blood, managing to finish in third position, 3”244 from the winner Ermanno Quinteri and behind Samuele Marchetti, second. The Sardinian driver returned to the track more motivated than ever and, after having achieved the second time in qualifying, just 0”038 from the pole position of the Sicilian Leonardo Bonomo, he started a Race 2 in which he was the absolute protagonist. Having conquered the first position since the first lap, he maintained it until the end, with an impeccable pace and management of the race.
The commitment and dedication have paid off, the races and tests held during the year have allowed Basoli to reach a maturity such as to be able to capitalize both in qualifying and in the race and, with the 2024 Champions Cup in the bag, the young man does not hide his satisfaction: «Already in Race 1, before the loss of the gear knob which penalized me a lot as I was unable to engage the gears, I understood that I had an excellent pace, so in Race 2 I believed in it. I immediately took the lead, I raced with the intention of building a good margin from the first laps and then I managed until the checkered flag. I thank Gianluca Giacchetto so much, as I am honored to be the standard-bearer of Jesolo-Technology-Kart, and my family, who supports me and allows me to practice this fantastic sport».
