Her screams and desperate attempts to defend herself and free herself weren't enough: the punches to her face became stronger, as did the grip around her neck, which tightened ever tighter, until she was strangled.
Zoe Trinchero, the seventeen-year-old from Nizza Monferrato found dead in a small stream , died this way, killed by Alex Manna , not yet twenty. In the initial reconstruction by the Carabinieri and the public prosecutor, some elements are already clear: the fury was unleashed after the girl rejected his advances . Furthermore, Manna accused another young man, a North African, of the femicide, who risked lynching for it. According to investigators, the 19-year-old was the last to see the victim, with whom he had no romantic relationship and had not previously had one .
From the first hours of the investigation, the Carabinieri detected clear inconsistencies in the boy's statements . He was questioned at the police station in the presence of a lawyer and the prosecutor Giacomo Ferrando of the Alessandria prosecutor's office, who is coordinating the investigation . Investigators therefore initiated a series of investigations, which led to his arrest.
The reconstruction
The young woman had finished her evening shift at the bar at the Nizza Monferrato train station, where she worked part-time, around 9:00 p.m. She then headed downtown for dinner at a friend's house, where Alex was also present. She later left with him. Shortly thereafter, the 20-year-old reportedly contacted the other young people and reported that he and Zoe had been attacked by a man of North African origin, known in the city for serious psychiatric problems. This story was immediately deemed unfounded by investigators, but it contributed to fueling tensions and suspicions.
Zoe's body was found shortly before midnight in the banks of the Rio Nizza, a small stream that runs through the city, in an area not far from the center. The body bore clear signs of violence and beatings, including injuries to the neck and swelling on the face. The situation immediately suggested an assault. Word spread, and about thirty people gathered outside the home of the man identified by Manna as the attacker. The intervention of the Carabinieri was necessary to protect him and prevent more serious consequences . Meanwhile, the police began their investigation.
Alex is questioned at the police station, and when a lawyer arrives to assist him, it's clear his position has changed. Meanwhile, Zoe's friends are outside. "I," one of them says, "can't say it was him. But if it was him, he must be crazy to do something like this. In any case, I hope the culprit is found soon." He adds that Manna "had no relationship with Zoe" and was "engaged to someone else."
At the end of the interrogation, in the afternoon, Alex confessed. Zoe's refusal was said to have pushed him toward the fatal attack. When the girl refused, he allegedly reacted violently, culminating in the femicide. The young woman attempted to scream and defend herself, but was ultimately strangled. Manna then left the scene of the crime to return home. He changed clothes, stained with the victim's blood, and then returned to his friends. He then attempted to deny to everyone what he later confessed.
