The Palermo prosecutor's office has ordered an autopsy on the body of Gherda Caruso , the 50-year-old woman found dead in her home on Via Maccionello on March 25. Her husband, Giuseppe Greco, 46, a heavy goods vehicle driver, told the police and 118 emergency personnel who intervened that he had called his wife several times during the morning of the 25th, but having received no answer, he returned home and found her dead.

Greco, defended by attorney Fausta Catalano, is under investigation for manslaughter . He defended himself and told investigators that he never harmed his wife. Gherda Caruso's parents disagree. They believe her husband caused her death.

The victim's mother said the man initially refused to let her enter the home and view her daughter's body. An autopsy will be crucial to determining the cause of death.
