There are also two Sardinians among the 30 new Bishops of the Republic who received the Certificate of Honor from President Sergio Mattarella .

Viola Bandinu , born in 2006 and residing in Olbia , was recognized for «the mature commitment with which she participates as a volunteer in after-school projects and activities for younger kids . Her ability to listen to and welcome the most vulnerable has also allowed her to become an example for other volunteers. «Young volunteer of the Italian Red Cross – continues the note – Viola has decided to engage with energy and curiosity in numerous social activities. He actively participated in after-school projects aimed at younger children. During the pandemic , as part of the Red Cross initiative "The Time of Kindness", Viola took care of the delivery of food parcels and shopping vouchers to those in the most vulnerable conditions. Thanks to a marked ability to listen and her communication skills she has become, in a short time and despite her young age, a point of reference in the same team of volunteers ».

Together with the young woman from Olbia, the twenty-year- old Simone Rovere Meloni from Uras was awarded. The Certificate went to him «for the courage and perseverance with which he reacted to the loss of part of his flock following a dramatic flood . The solidarity received gave him the strength to get up and to continue doing the job he had chosen for his future. At the end of November 2021, after a night of incessant rain, the boy saw more than half of his flock of sheep drown in the mud . Thanks to the appeal by Caritas of Ales-Terralba, the funds were raised which allowed him to resume his activity".

The selection among many deserving ones, explain from the Quirinale, "was oriented towards enhancing solidarity behaviors and actions , now in the context of a welcome to Ukrainian children fleeing the war, now through other gestures of friendship, cooperation, inclusion so that diversity never become barriers. The witnesses chosen are not examples of rare actions , but are emblematic of widespread behavior among young people, illustrating a mosaic of civic virtues of which, fortunately, our communities are rich. The stories of the Bishops of the Republic can therefore also be seen as the tip of a large iceberg which represents, in every territory, the daily life of young people».
