A 51-year-old cyclist, Pawel Talaga , of Polish descent, died during a race yesterday afternoon. The tragedy occurred between Roccapia and Roccaraso near the La Portella tunnel, while he was carrying out an individual race of 775 kilometers, the Ultracycling, which crosses Central Italy.

The man was hit first by a car and then by a cyclist passing through the area. The emergency services of the 118 service alerted by those present were immediate, but unfortunately there was nothing for the cyclist to do: he died instantly due to the serious traumas reported.

The body remains at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Sulmona which ordered the cadaveric reconnaissance and is evaluating the need to resort to the autopsy examination. The findings were made by the Sulmona Traffic Police who are working on reconstructing the exact dynamics of the accident to ascertain any responsibility.

The cyclist was participating in the "RAI775" , a sort of double Tyrrhenian Adriatico , in progress these days. Starting from Silvi Marina, the cycling race crosses four regions, touching the Adriatic Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea twice for a total of 10 thousand meters in altitude.

Pawel Talaga was the only participant in the over 50 category.
