There would be a human error behind the episode of the poisoning of 25 people due to an excess of chlorine in the municipal swimming pool of Bosco Chiesanuova, in the province of Verona. Four accused more serious illnesses and were hospitalized in yellow code in the hospitals of Verona while the others were treated in the hospitals of Negrar and San Bonifacio.
According to Mayor Claudio Melotti, "it was a routine operation, the expected refilling of the containers with chlorine and sulfuric acid for cleaning, an operation that is carried out periodically in each pool. During this intervention, the company in charge of supplying the service crossed the pipes from the tank, in this way the sulfuric acid mixed with the chlorine generating a chemical reaction, with the exhalation of toxic fumes».
"The fumes - he added - from the basement spread through the vents and spread into the pool, intoxicating the 25 people present in the pool area, which caused severe burns or respiratory problems".
Among the 25 intoxicated, 9 are children, between 3 and 6 years old, from the nursery school of Romagnano, part of the municipality of Grezzana (Verona), who were taking a swimming course.
The investigations were entrusted to the Spisal of Ulss 9 Scaligera.
