Maximum attention must be paid to ensure that all initiatives are taken to protect events in the square: Christmas markets, processions, Jubilee ceremonies, concerts.
This is the recommendation, as learned from qualified sources, made by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, to the police forces during the meeting called this afternoon at the Viminale to examine the threat profiles after the attack in Magdeburg. And the measures must not be taken only in large cities, but also in small towns.
The concern of the apparatus is the risk of emulation and the activation of a lone wolf, in the absence of evidence of hostile planning against Italian targets.
During the meeting, what happened in Germany, in Magdeburg, was analyzed: the case is still to be framed in all its aspects. If the perpetrator of the attack was linked to networks or a lone wolf, if he was under the influence of drugs.
As for the repercussions on Italy, the main theme, according to the analyses shared at the Viminale table, is the risk of emulation or the activation of a lone wolf. For this reason Piantedosi gave indications on the street events that could be targeted as happened in Magdeburg.
The other call was to further intensify all monitoring activities in the most at-risk environments, with checks on individuals who could become radicalized. The goal is to identify them before they take action and expel them. Since the beginning of the year, 82 expulsions have been ordered.
