The pandemic is running again in Sardinia, as in all of Italy. On the island there is a deteriorating performance for the currently positive people per 100 thousand inhabitants (210 compared to 168 in the previous survey) with an increase in new cases of 17.7% in the week between 8 and 14 December.
The Gimbe Foundation notes this. The incidence in the Sassarese area decreased (from 78 to 60), but increased in the Province of Nuoro (from 76 to 123) and doubled in the metropolitan city of Cagliari (from 33 to 69). Stable, albeit slightly increasing, in Southern Sardinia (75) and in the Oristano area (61).
The pressure in hospitals also rises slightly even if the beds in the medical area (5%) and in intensive care (3%) occupied by Covid-19 patients remain below the saturation threshold.
VACCINES - As for the vaccination campaign, the Sardinian population that has completed the vaccination cycle is equal to 78.9%, slightly above the Italian average which, on the other hand, stands at 77.6%.
In addition, there is an additional 2.4% of Sardinians who only received the first dose. According to government data, currently 1,261,557 people residing on the island are vaccinated out of 2,838,828 doses arrived in Sardinia, with an average of about 800 first administrations per day and about 15 thousand overall, including third doses.
The vaccination coverage rate with third dose is 59.2% while the Italian average stands at 61.4%. In the meantime, today we start with vaccines for children between 5 and 11 years old .
IN ITALY - For two months throughout the national territory there has been no sign of slowing down the epidemic that is progressively "leading to a dangerous congestion of hospitals", reads the dossier.
In the week 8-14 December, compared to the previous one, new cases and deaths increase by about 18%. "On the hospital front, the number of beds occupied by Covid patients is still increasing: + 17.9% in the medical area and + 11.2% in intensive care". However, in recent weeks "the percentage of patients hospitalized in the medical area has decreased. and in intensive compared to the positives ", thanks to the increase of the third doses.
In detail, the report sees an increase in new cases (124,568 compared to 105,771 in the previous week, equal to + 17.8%). Currently positive cases are also increasing (297,394 compared to 240,894, equal to + 23.5%), hospitalized with symptoms (7,163 compared to 6,078, equal to +17.9) and intensive care (863 compared to 776, equal to at + 11.2%). The ratio between positives and people tested clearly increases (from 3.6% to 23.9%) and deaths are also increasing by 18.8%, which were 663 in the last 7 days compared to 558.
"For two months, new cases have continued to increase" and the daily weekly average went from 2,456 on 15 October to 17,795 on 14 December. On the other hand, the percentage of patients hospitalized in the medical area and in intensive care on the total of currently positive patients fell, which for the medical area fell from 3.47% on 7 November to 2.41% on 14 December and for therapies intensive from 0.47% on 21 October to 0.30% on 14 December. Despite the increased pressure on hospitals and "in the face of a substantially stable number of tampons - explains Nino Cartabellotta, president of the Gimbe Foundation - this data is likely to be attributed to the increase in third doses, which bring efficacy back to higher values. ".
