Rai has sent Sigfrido Ranucci a letter of warning for the statements made by the journalist in the latest episode of “È sempre Cartabianca”, on Rete4, about the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio in connection with the case of the pardon of Nicole Minetti .
The company accuses the Report host of having spread "unverified" news, as he himself admitted. Furthermore, according to RAI, Ranucci was only authorized to present his book and not to participate in current affairs discussions on a competing program. Finally, the letter clarifies that no legal protection will be provided should the minister take legal action.
On TV, Ranucci had spoken about a testimony collected according to which the Keeper of the Seals had been a guest at the ranch of Giuseppe Cipriani, Nicole Minetti's partner, in Uruguay.
Political reactions were immediate. According to Barbara Floridia, president of the Rai Oversight Commission and a senator for the Five Star Movement, "RAI's letter of reprimand to Sigfrido Ranucci is a very serious act . I will ask the company for details of a measure whose "political" significance cannot be overlooked. Floridia adds, "I see excessive zeal and attention bordering on the spasmodic toward Ranucci and Report: a toxic climate incompatible with public service."
