It crashed shortly after takeoff and caught fire on impact with the ground. This is what happened to an ultralight aircraft taking off from the Terni airfield headed for L'Aquila. Two sixty-year-olds died in the accident: pilot and passenger.
The impact - the firefighters explain - occurred at the end of the Maratta road, towards Narni shortly after the Chico Mendez park, in a field next to the E45 highway. The vehicle involved is a four-seater tourist aircraft and
single engine.
Once it fell, the aircraft was engulfed in flames that also spread to the surrounding vegetation. The fire was immediately put out by the teams on site but there was nothing that could be done for the two. The State Police also intervened - first the flying squad and then the forensic police and the Terni mobile squad - the local police and the 118 operators.
